Serums are where skincare budgets go fastest, and the same active ingredient can cost a few dollars or over a hundred. This page lists every face serum in our daily price check, grouped by price, with advice from the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) on choosing products. We have not tested these products; we track their prices.
Match the serum to one goal
The AAD advises choosing products that address your main concern and are suited to your skin type, rather than layering many products at once. Using too many products, or ones that irritate, can make skin look worse.
Start slowly with actives
The AAD warns that using more than one new anti-aging product within a few days or weeks can irritate skin, and recommends testing a new product on a small spot twice daily for 7 to 10 days first. It also notes that effective products come in all price ranges, and that “clinically proven” does not mean FDA-approved.
Sunscreen still matters most
The AAD says sunscreen and moisturizer are the two most effective anti-aging products you can buy: broad spectrum, SPF 30 or higher, and water resistant. A serum does not replace them.
