Foundation sits on your skin all day, so the wrong formula can mean breakouts or shine by lunch. This page lists every foundation in our daily price check, grouped by price, with advice from the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). We have not tested these products; we track their prices.
Look for “non-comedogenic” or “oil-free”
The AAD says people with acne can wear makeup, but should check labels for “oil-free,” “won’t clog pores,” or “non-comedogenic,” and stop using any product that seems to cause breakouts.
Oily skin: matte, water-based formulas
For oily skin, the AAD suggests oil-free, water-based makeup; products labeled “matte” can help reduce shine. Several foundations below include SPF, but the AAD still recommends a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher sunscreen for real sun protection.
Apply gently and never sleep in it
The AAD advises applying makeup with a light touch, cleaning brushes weekly, not sharing makeup or applicators, and removing all makeup before bed.

- Clean sponges and brushes every week.
- If breakouts continue after switching makeup, see a board-certified dermatologist.
